Optuna開発スプリント中止のお知らせ

誠に残念ですが新型コロナウイルス感染症に関わる状況の急激な変化を鑑み、Optuna開発スプリントの中止を決定いたしました。時期は未定ですが、コロナウイルスの終息後に改めて企画したいと思います。参加を予定されていた方には申し訳ありませんが、どうぞよろしくお願いいたします。

Cancellation of the development sprint

Given the situation and considering the risk of the new Coronavirus (COVID-19), we have unfortunately decided to cancel the Optuna Development Sprint. We would like to reschedule the development sprint after the virus epidemic has settled down. We ask for your cooperation and understanding.

English follows below. Non-Japanese speakers are welcomed as we’ll have English-speaking developers on site.

概要

Optunaは、オープンソースのハイパーパラメータ自動最適化フレームワークです。このイベントでは、Optunaのコントリビュータやメンテナが参加者の皆様と一緒に、Optunaの開発を進めます。ワイワイ口頭で相談しながら、また、静かにGitterでコミュニケーションしながらみんなで作業しましょう。

開発対象はOptunaの本体、example、ドキュメントです。GitHub上でのPull Requestの作成とマージを目指します。既存のIssueに取り組んで頂いても大丈夫ですし、新たなテーマの提案も大歓迎です。新規テーマで取り組まれる場合には、Issueを立てていただけると、当日の開発をスムーズに進められると思います。

成果を共有したい人は、是非、懇親会でLTにチャレンジして下さい！

参加想定者

条件は特に設けていません。OSSへのコントリビュートに興味がある人であれば大歓迎です。具体的な開発タスクとしては、ドキュメントやexampleの簡単な修正から、最適化アルゴリズム（ベイズ最適化、進化計算、バンディットアルゴリズム）、分散機能（分散計算、ネットワーク）、ストレージ（RDB）周りの改善まで、幅広いタスクを想定しています。

準備

作業用のPCは各自ご用意ください。無線LANは利用可能です。また、電源も一人一口利用できます。

昼食は各自ご用意ください。会場付近のコンビニやレストランは、日曜日は営業していないお店が多いので、ご注意ください。

スケジュール

タイムテーブルは下記です。途中退場可能ですが、退場される前にスタッフに一言お声がけください。また、昼食を含め、休憩は各自で自由に取って頂いて結構です。

Meetup会場は地下鉄大手町駅直結の大手町ビル3FのPreferred Networksです。 会社総合受付ではなく直接Meetup会場の328号室（会社総合受付と同じ階、ホール反対側）にお越しください。ただし、日曜日は大手町ビルは 1F 通用口からのみの出入りとなります (Otemori 側)。警備員さんにお名前と入館時間の記入を求められます。御注意下さい。入り口が分からない場合はGitterの https://gitter.im/optuna/optuna 、または https://gitter.im/optuna/optuna-jp でお知らせ下さい。

懇親会

開発の後に会場で懇親会があります。ピザとビールなどの軽食をご用意する予定です。他の参加者とコミュニケーションをとる良い機会ですので、ぜひご参加ください。また、希望者があれば、LT枠を設ける予定です。

注意事項

• 登録された本人のみが参加できます。登録ハンドルネームを入り口でスタッフにご提示ください。
• イベントの様子を撮影・録画し、ブログやSNSなどで公開することがあります。参加者の姿も公開される場合がありますのでご了承ください。
• Optuna自体の説明プレゼンはありません。

Description

Optuna is an open source hyperparameter optimization framework. Get together with the contributors and maintainers of Optuna to develop and improve the framework. This opportunity allows discussing face-to-face with developers to ask for direct feedback. You can also use Gitter for online discussions if you would like.

The intended development areas are the core parts of Optuna, examples and documentation. The goal is to create and merge pull requests on GitHub covering these areas. You can pick and choose an existing issue on GitHub but are also free to work on a new task that is not yet addressed. If you choose to work on a new task, we suggest creating an issue beforehand to quickly get started.

If you would like to share your outcomes, please feel free to hold a LT at the social gathering towards the end of the day!

Expected Attendees

There are no particular requirements. We welcome developers who are interested in contributing to OSS. We are expecting tasks ranging from documentation and example improvements to optimization algorithms (Bayesian optimization, evolutionary computations, bandit algorithms), distributed engineering (distributed computing, network), storage (RDB), etc.

Prerequisites

Please bring your own PC to work on. Wi-Fi and an outlet per person is available.

No lunch will be provided. Please bring your own lunch or grab a lunch near the venue. Many shops and restaurants however are unfortunately closed on Sundays.

Schedule

The outline is as follows. If you choose to leave early, please let the organizers know. You are free to take breaks, including lunch, at any time during the development time.

Meetup venue is located on the 3rd floor of Otemachi Building which is directly connected to the Otemachi subway station. Please come directly to the venue, room number 328, not the Preferred Networks Reception which is located on the same floor but on the opposite side of the corridor. Please note that on Sundays, the Otemachi Building is accessible only from the security gate (1F@Otemori side). You will be requested by the guard to fill out the list (your name and time of entering the bldg) there. If you cannot find the entrance, let us know on Gitter at https://gitter.im/optuna/optuna or https://gitter.im/optuna/optuna-jp.

Social gathering

Towards the end, we are planning an optional social gathering. Pizza and drinks, both alcoholic such as beer and non-alcoholic beverages, will be served. Please take this opportunity to talk with other attendees in a more casual environment. If there are volunteers, LTs can be held.

Notes

• Only the attendees who signed up for this event can come to the development sprint. Please identify yourself (e.g. by telling us your name) when arriving so that we can check with the list of attendees.
• Photos and videos might be recorded during the development sprint. Please be aware that those materials might contain images of the attendees and used for blogs or SNS.
• A presentation introducing Optuna is not planned.
